Person tracking demo

This project was a demo build for a team who wanted to show off the versatility of their commercial microgrid technology. Using power-line communication (PLC) and an advanced video camera with edge processing and person tracking, their system could support a large number of cameras by integrating them into light fixtures – with no costly additional cable pull required for the camera.

We built a live demo of their system that allowed customers to walk around in a lab and see a tracking dot move with them on a TV screen in real time, all using live data streamed over PLC from a camera integrated into an overhead fixture. The first VIP demo went off without a hitch.

To deliver this demo, ABK Engineering:

  • Integrated a power-line communication (PLC) bridge, a HVDC-input power supply, and a panoramic camera into an existing light enclosure
  • Wrote a custom visualization to parse the metadata stream coming from the camera and render it onto a floor plan
  • Fabricated, assembled, and tested the demo

We’re great at stitching together different technologies, platforms, and systems in a hurry, whether your goal is a VIP demo next week or an integration project that needs to work for a decade. If you have a problem to solve that doesn’t fit in any one box, get in touch with us today.
