Indoor air quality sensor

This project was a design exploration of an indoor air quality sensor designed by ABK Engineering’s founder, Aaron Bonnell-Kangas. It incorporates a PMS5003 airborne particulate sensor, an AC-DC power supply, an ESP32-based microcontroller board, and a ring of indicator LEDs into a 3D-printed enclosure.

We love exploratory projects like this one. ABK Engineering can help you with any of the tasks required to put your own version together, like:

  • 3D CAD modeling of existing parts, from samples or drawings
  • 3D design and prototyping of brackets, enclosures, holders, and widgets
  • Integrating and interfacing with sensors, indicators, and other electronics
  • Datalogging and data recording setup

ABK Engineering also has experience with a variety of environmental and airborne contaminant sensors, including carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), explosive gases, airborne particulates, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and more.

We can take your concept from napkin sketch to functional prototype as a turnkey service, or we can step in for certain parts of the project so that you can focus on the areas that matter to you.

If you’ve got an idea like this one that you want to make a reality, get a hold of us today.

If you’d like to read more about this IAQ sensor prototype, Aaron wrote up the build on his personal blog in 2019.
